Our Easter

I didn’t get around to dying eggs with S until yesterday evening after Baby A went to bed but we had fun none the less. S chose to use the "pastel method" which only included water. For the most part the eggs turned out rather good but I think we will probably stick with the "vivid method" (this includes vinegar) from now on though because some of the colors just didn’t want to stick. Or maybe it was just that they were super pastel.

S dyed a dozen eggs and I did four. Some he drew on with the wax crayon and some he did multi colored. After all his eggs were dyed we cleaned up the dye (only after attempting to tie dye one of his undershirts, not sure what the results of that is yet but even if it sucks it was super fun. I’m thinking this would be a really fun summer project. Jamaya, you game?). We pulled out some markers and did some drawing as well. Lastly we added stickers. It was a lot of fun even if it didn’t end until after 1030. It was a very late night for the Easter Bunny.

In goes the eggs. I believe that would be the denim blue and it took forever with very little results.

Doing a little wax drawing before picking a color.

Making sure his egg is fully colored.

S loves to do multi colored eggs and they look so neat.
I remember last year when he decided to do this, all on his own. I was beyond impressed.

S uses markers to draw some details onto his colored eggs. He drew a really neat picture on his half orange, half purple egg. On ones side was me holding Baby A and on the other side was me holding him. It was beyond sweet!

Adding stickers. I believe I’m holding Baby A in the egg on the far right.

I decided the easiest way to explain the night’s activities/mornings surprises were by a note. This is the first year I’ve done this but I think it worked brilliantly. S was so excited to see that the Easter Bunny left him a note. Getting a chocolate egg for finding a golden egg was totally what he expected or wanted (In Max and Ruby the one to find the most eggs gets a chocolate chicken, at least I think it’s a chocolate chicken). I was a little concerned yesterday when he told me his interpretation of Easter because I did not buy the boys much candy or chocolate, thankfully J picked up a 4 pack of Cadbury eggs on his trip to the commissary yesterday. J saves the day!

The letter left for Baby A and S from none other than the Easter Bunny, of course. S was stunned to hear what it said (he’s reading really well but not that well) and instantly went running around to find all the eggs.

Baby A finds his first egg.

”Oh wow, what’s this? Even better than eggs!”

Baby A found his hidden basket and gifts from the Easter Bunny pretty quickly (although they were hid in a place that was a bit easier to find to begin with). This sent S on a mad hunt for his treats.

Baby A finds another egg.

Finding his surprise from the Easter Bunny was a lot harder than he thought but totally worth it. I mean it wasn’t hidden crazy or anything but maybe just a bit harder than I had originally intended.

S is beyond pleased with his new Easter Bunny house.

”Hmm what is this?” Baby A was so interested in eating the gummies J was giving him that I ended up doing most of the unwrapping.

Baby A starts cooking with his new food and pan set.

J shows Baby A his egg game.

Growing up I remember eating creamed eggs on toast every Easter and I make it a point to continue this simple tradition. To be honest how else are all those boiled eggs going to get eaten? Yes, even if I’m the only one that actually likes it.

The Playmobil Easter Bunny house.

Another little bunny set.

S playing with his new Easter house.

And now its time to open some of those plastic eggs for the playdough inside. All of the hidden eggs have playdough in them and we have spent the morning taking turns hiding them again and again. J hid them for S and me but we lost one of the gold ones for over an hour. It was insane. Every time there is always that one egg that seems so much harder to find than the rest.

And that was Easter 2008 in the Falter house. I hope you had a lovely holiday. I am off to finish my paper (it is due today) and then we are all going to dinner at a friends.

I love all the pics and the explanations with them! I was wondering what creamed eggs where when I looked at the myspace...and I'm pretty darn sure I will never try that recipe! Glad you like it though!!! haha

I love how the Easter Bunny hides the kids' presents at your house...I need to leave a note for him next year to do the same here!
