MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

1. What characteristic about yourself has either been strengthened or weakened due to your experience as a Military Spouse?

Strengthened: My ability to adapt and deal with things on my own. I don't need to rely on hardly anyone to go about life (excluding J but I think that's a given). I feel strongly that I can handle most things that are dealt to me (although a slight breakdown on initial impact may occur). I may not enjoy being a single parent for months on end but I know I can do it. I also know I can run our household on my own for long lengths of time.

Weakened: Need/want to acquire new friendships. Moving every couple years has made it hard to stay friends with people for any length of time. I do not carry around the Filofax to call everyone or keep up to date with those I have known. I do not have the time or energy. This has resulted in many distanced and lost friendships. Those that are still strong are over distance and take effort which leaves none for trying to make new friends where we currently live.

2. What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

As a family we love to travel. I adore anywhere that involves little effort on my part ie cruises or holidays that do not include me in the kitchen. The beach may be a prized location simply because I love the water which we see very little of in Las Vegas.

3. If you could have any fast-food restaurant in the food court on base/post what would you pick?

Since I don't visit the BX often and am avoiding eating out I'm not sure how to answer this question. I despise Burger King so maybe a better burger rival.

4. Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We didn't actually have one. Only days after getting married, rather simply, J received his orders to Belgium and we kind of just decided that we would enjoy our time overseas. We had a blast and traveled tons!

5. If you could have any job in the world, regardless of money, degree, or experience, which job would you have and why?

Excluding the time involved, I still have a passion for being in the medical field. I realize I do not like people in general so it would have to involve little to no people interaction. I just want the ability to better others lives, without taking away to much time from my own family.

  1. I agree with not having the time/effort to keep up with everyone. But, I sort of figure that friendships that are meant to be aren't difficult to maintain.
